Safer Christmas

When safety isn't a guarantee, Christmas becomes an afterthought.

Christmas is a time of joy and coming together as a whānau, a time to slow down and appreciate spending time together. However, for many of our tāngata whaiora/clients experiencing violence, Christmas is stressful and full of uncertainty.

The cost-of-living crisis continues to place increasing financial pressure on whānau, with many of our tāngata whaiora continuing to stay in unsafe relationships over Christmas just to survive.

New Zealand has the highest rate of family and intimate partner violence in the developed world, with Police and frontline agencies reporting a sharp rise in incidents over the Christmas period.

Many of these incidents aren’t reported and frontline agencies like Aviva are under pressure to meet increasing demand on tighter budgets. Your support will help continue to provide family violence and sexual violence support to those who need it most.

How you can help

By donating, your funds will go toward providing 24/7 access to advice, advocacy, and support, even on Christmas Day. You can ensure the next [insert name or description] has someone to help her on her journey, and that her children are able to open presents on Christmas morning in a safe home free from violence.

Meri Kirihimete and happy holidays!
